Yemen is struggling with the world's most severe humanitarian crisis. About 80 per cent of the population (24.1 million people) are in need of some type of humanitarian and protection assistance, along with 3.6 million people whom are internally displaced.  In partnership with USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will provide life-saving multi-sectoral assistance to over 192,500 displaced people and conflict-affected communities in Yemen. Health, protection, shelter, and water and sanitation needs are prevalent in Yemen. Amidst growing displacement, 6.4 million Yemeni's require shelter and 17.8 million people require water and sanitation assistance and 19.7 million Yemeni’s need access to health care in the face of just half of Yemen's health care facilities functioning. A troubling statistic given the COVID-19 outbreak in Yemen.

“The conflict in Yemen is entering its sixth year, and the huge humanitarian need across all sectors has not abated, it has impacted employment and the ability for government institutions to support rural projects and to provide basic services. Besides, the impact affected the economy resulting in a rise of prices, shortage of resources, and interruption of salaries. On top of that the outbreak of COVID-19 made it more difficult to reach and use safe water and sanitation facilities said Ayoob Z’abl, IOM Yemen WASH team member.

Support from the USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), will enable IOM to provide an integrated and multi-sectoral response which will improve the living conditions for over 37,000 displaced people in Marib, Al Jawf, Taizz, Shabwah and Ibb governorates through improved site coordination, management and maintenance. Over 66,000 conflict affected people in Yemen will have access to safe and dignified shelter solutions, and access to safe and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene solutions. BHA support will also provide 66,800 affected people in Taizz, Lahj, Aden, Abyan, Shabwah, Marib and Hadramout governorates with life-saving primary and secondary health care services, including mental health and psychosocial support. In Aden, Sana’a, Lahj and Marib governorates more then 28,500 affected communities will have access to specialized and general protection services.

IOM’s longstanding partnership with USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) has successfully supported humanitarian needs in Yemen for vulnerable communities, conflict affected communities, displaced people, and stranded migrants in Yemen.
