Eighth Edition of the Summer School on Migration Launched in Tunis
Tunis— The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Tunisia inaugurated the 8th edition of the Summer School on Migration, taking place from 26 to 30 August 2024 at Hotel Laico in the capital, Tunis, in close collaboration with the National Institute of Labour and Social Studies (INTES).
This 8th edition focuses on the topic: “Expanding regular migration pathways: state of play and opportunities", in line with the third Objective of the IOM’s Strategic Plan 2024-2028, which places ‘Facilitating pathways for regular migration’ as one of the Organization’s priorities for the next four years.
Designed as a comprehensive training program, the 2024 Summer School is gathering over 70 participants from the academic world, public institutions, and civil society to deepen their knowledge in the area of migration, foster networking among stakeholders at the national level, and create synergies at the regional and international levels.
The opening ceremony was marked by the active participation of Ms. Ahlem Hammami, General Director of the National Observatory on Migration (ONM), and Mr. Ahmed Messaoudi, General Director of Overseas Placement and Foreign Workforce, Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, as well as Their Excellencies Joey R. Hood, Ambassador of the United States in Tunisia and Alessandro Prunas, Ambassador of Italy in Tunisia; Mr. Gianfranco Bochicchio, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation in Tunisia; and Mr. Arnaud Peral, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunisia.
The program is structured around key thematic areas: the international framework, followed by a deep dive into the different regular migration pathways, including pathways for labor, pathways for education, pathways for family, and those due to humanitarian factors (including pathways due to climate change).
This edition was enriched by an Opportunity Fair on Wednesday, 28 August, held from 14:30 until 16:30. The fair provided a platform for agencies and the public to connect and explore international employment programs, academic exchanges, and educational opportunities.
