IOM Organizes Training on Migration Management for Government Partners in Algeria
Algiers, 17 October 2023 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is holding a three-day training course on "Key Concepts of Migration Management" for Algerian government officials in Algiers from 17 to 19 October 2023 to promote sound migration governance and share best practices supporting informed decision-making.
Migration is a multifaceted phenomenon globally and its complexities demand a profound understanding and a collaborative approach. Thus, such engagements with migration stakeholders play a fundamental role in achieving a more effective and holistic migration management that upholds the rights of migrants and benefits host communities and all other parties involved.
The training will discuss the interplay between the various factors impacting migration, as well as, promoting a unified perspective on migration that is based on the principles of whole-of-government and whole-of-society, the importance of partnerships, and evidence-based policies.
It will also highlight the need for cooperation on national, regional, and global levels, while emphasizing the pertinence of international frameworks like the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration in supporting the work of government officials and other stakeholders.
The training, commencing with opening remarks from the IOM Chief of Mission in Algeria and the UN Resident Coordinator in Algeria, will offer an opportunity to delve into essential topics, including key migration concepts, international migration law, human rights, labor rights, gender-related matters in migration, and other relevant issues.
“This training comes after several years of close and fruitful collaboration between the Government of Algeria and the International Organization for Migration and represents a unique opportunity to consolidate and further strengthen that partnership” declared Mr Paolo Caputo IOM Algeria’s chief of Mission.
IOM Algeria is delighted to have the opportunity to bring together participants from diverse backgrounds for this training, aimed at promoting more effective migration management in Algeria and beyond.
The active participation of the government and its representatives in this training underscores the importance attached to migration management in Algeria and reflects a commitment to safe, orderly, and regular migration policies and practices.
This training is made possible thanks to the financial support of the COMPASS initiative, funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the PARCOURS project, funded by the Italian government.
