IOM-Estijabah Foundation Partnership to Improve Living Conditions for Displaced Community in Marib Al Wadi

IOM-Estijabah Foundation Partnership to Improve Living Conditions for Displaced Community in Marib Al Wadi

Marib – As conflict intensifies in north-east Yemen, thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and shelters in search of safer locations near Marib city. To meet the increasing demand for aid, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) signed a new agreement with its implementing partner, Estijabah Foundation.

The Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) partnership focuses on responding to the needs of internally displaced people living in displacement sites with extremely limited access to essential services by improving their living conditions. The project activities will target Marib Alwadi district where humanitarian needs are high as a result of new and protracted displacement.

“The number of displaced people is still on the rise and new displacement sites continue to emerge in Marib,” explained Mohamed Elmasry, IOM’s Camp Coordination and Camp Management Officer in Marib.

“IOM engages with local partners to implement camp management activities in some of the most in-need sites in the Governorate to ensure a wider reach of our assistance and an increase in local response capacity,” added Elmasry.

The intervention will strengthen local camp management and coordination and ensure that minimum humanitarian standards are met in Marib Alwadi. Activities will include the formation of camp committees comprised of displaced people living on the site, capacity building activities for camp leaders and camp committees, and community mobilization activities.  Estijabah Foundation will also carry out displacement site care and maintenance activities such as site risk reduction and shelter improvements and reinforcements.

The partnership between IOM and Estijabah Foundation is made possible through support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), and it is expected to benefit up to 7,000 people in ten displacement sites across Marib Al Wadi over the next six months.
