COP27: ADDRESSING HUMAN MOBILITY DRIVEN BY CLIMATE CHANGE
The world will convene in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, between 6 and 18 of November 2022, for the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The science is clear; climate change affects us all. It is a “threat to human well-being and the health of the planet” (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change WG II Report).
The human mobility implications of the climate crisis are profound. In 2021 alone, disasters led to 23.7 million internal displacements (Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre’s Global Report 2022). Climate action is urgent. According to the World Bank, without early and concerted climate and development action, over 216 million people could become internal climate migrants by 2050.
We must act urgently, involving the whole society. We must strengthen people’s resilience and move from negotiation to implementation. At COP27, we must deliver for humanity, for its dignity and for future generations.
At COP27, we must leave no one behind.
