ANAPEC and IOM Strengthen Cooperation on Employability and Economic Integration of Moroccan and Migrant Youth
Rabat – A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Wednesday 3 August in Rabat, between the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) in Morocco and the United Nations Migration Agency (IOM), aiming to strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of employability and economic integration of young Moroccans and migrants.
The joint work of IOM and ANAPEC has enabled for several years the achievement of common objectives: the employability and economic integration of young Moroccans and migrants through employment and entrepreneurship, the reintegration of Moroccans living abroad and mobility of skills (work, studies, internships, etc.). Therefore, the two institutions expressed their interest to see this long-term collaboration strengthened through this new official cooperation agreement.
On this occasion, Mr. Mohamed Achiq, Director General of ANAPEC, pointed out that "the cooperation between ANAPEC and IOM has been ongoing for several years and has impacted a number of significant projects, particularly regarding the support to migrant populations to facilitate their socio-economic integration and the promotion of entrepreneurial spirit. This Memorandum of Understanding will further expand will extend the benefit to other targets and strengthen this successful partnership."
IOM Morocco Chief of Mission, Ms. Laura Palatini, recalled that « human mobility is part of a strategy to improve the economic situation of a person, whether in the country of origin or the host country. Improving employability and human mobility goes hand in hand with the Global Compact objective of migration that is safe, orderly and humane. In addition, IOM, through its mandate, provides support to strengthen migration governance, including labor migration. The partnership with ANAPEC is another step for migration to be a real lever for development in Morocco."
This agreement will allow ANAPEC and IOM to act jointly to implement projects of common interest. The two institutions have agreed on a set of activities relating in particular to the exchange of expertise developed on both sides, as well as on activities in the fields of employability and economic integration of migrants and Moroccans, in particular NEETs (young people not in education, employment or training), the mobility of skills and the prospection of international job offers, the promotion of ethical recruitment, the technical assistance in the sector of employability and the promotion of economic growth and support for human development.
