IOM and Qatar Charity Sign Agreement to Support Yemen’s Most Vulnerable Communities
Doha – Yesterday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Qatar signed an agreement with Qatar Charity to begin a new project that will enhance the provision of rapid financial assistance to vulnerable households in Yemen. Iman Ereiqat, Chief of Mission of IOM Qatar and Nawaf Abdulla AlHammadi, Chief of Operations and International Partnerships Officer at Qatar Charity, signed the agreement.
The four-month project aims to provide immediate livelihood assistance to vulnerable households to meet urgent needs.
In the framework of the Agreement, Qatar Charity will allocate USD 500,000 to IOM to improve access to basic goods and services and support long-term livelihood opportunities for over 10,000 people in need.
“The people of Yemen continue to face a severe humanitarian crisis, and the needs on the ground are growing. Today, with our valuable partner Qatar Charity, we have signed an agreement on a new project to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people in Yemen,” said Iman Ereiqat, Chief of Mission for IOM Qatar.
“Thanks to the generous contribution of Qatar Charity, thousands of crisis-affected families will benefit from the intervention.”
The project will support vulnerable households in Ma’rib, Lahj, Hadramout and areas on Yemen’s west coast in Al Hodeidah and South Ta’iz to meet their most critical needs by providing multi-purpose cash assistance to empower local communities and contribute towards reducing reliance on external aid.
“IOM Yemen highly values its partnership with Qatar Charity in efforts to meet our common goal of reaching the neediest in Yemen due to the difficult conditions left by years of conflict,” added Matthew Huber, Acting Chief of Mission of IOM Yemen.
“We are very thankful for this contribution, and look forward to working with Qatar Charity on this programme and broadening our partnership in other initiatives that benefit those in hard-to-reach areas.”
"We are proud to sign this agreement, which we hope will contribute to alleviating the suffering of thousands of our brothers in Yemen,” said Nawaf Abdulla AlHammadi, Chief of Operations and International Partnerships Officer at Qatar Charity.
He noted that Qatar Charity is keen to enhance and strengthen the existing cooperation with IOM to reach the largest number of needy people worldwide, indicating that Qatar Charity will intensify work in Yemen to support stability and development.
AlHammadi underlined Qatar Charity's keenness to utilize its expertise, potential, and capabilities to serve the vulnerable and communities in need through cooperation and partnership with many international humanitarian organizations, networks and alliances.
